Name:  Scott Whittaker

DoB:  20/04/1987

Where do you live:  Weston-Super-Mare.

Current set up:  7.75 bomber board, Venture hi’s, 52mm bomber wheels.

Sponsors:  Unabomber, Adio, SS20 skateshop.

How and when did you start skating?   It was like 8 years ago, I was living in Swindon and one of my mates got a board so I had a go on his throughout the summer and when Christmas came I had enough money to buy my own. It was a blank board, Gullwing trucks and Reaction wheels.

Who were you skating with at first?   Loads of my friends in Swindon all started skating around the same time but I had to wait a lil’ bit longer to get my first board so there was already like 12 of them skating before me.

What terrain were you riding at first?   There is this basketball court in old town in Swindon at croft sport centre that we all used to go to and set up lil’ ramps and blocks, that and the top of Debenhams every Sunday, everyone in Swindon used to go there so you’d get a chance to see some new people, was good times.

Who were some early influences on your skating?   The first person I saw that I thought was amazing was definitely [Paul] Carter, I had only been skating like 2 months so was still learning to push properly, I remember seeing him messin’ around just nose wheelying some long kerb and thought that was the best thing I’d seen on a skateboard at the time.

What do you think of skate videos?   Obviously it depends which ones, I think I’m definitely more into British videos, its easier to relate to them and appreciate what’s actually being done when you’ve been to the spots rather than some perfect looking American 12 stair rail.

Which are your favorites?   I’ve just recently seen Savoire Faire, that’s pretty amazing, its been properly put together and actually makes you want to go out skating after watching it. Of course the best video is always gonna be Urbane Mob though is’nt it, haha.

Do you enjoy shooting video parts?   Sometimes I love it and other times it’s the most stressful thing about skateboarding. I’m trying to get some footage together at the moment but am still getting over a ankle injury from January, so filming isn’t going too good at the moment, hopefully will pick up soon though?

Do you skate small stuff like curbs and parking bumps?   Yeah all the time, there’s not too much to skate in Weston and with the ankle at the mo I have to take it easy till its fixed.

Do you skate vert?   I’ve never tried skating vert, I really want to have a go but will probably ruin myself just dropping in on one now.

What do you think of public skateparks?   There’s some new ones poppin’ up that are getting better, looks like the councils are finally starting to listen to the people who actually know what they’re talking about.

Should skateparks copy real street spots like Love Park and EMB?   Yeah for sure, I would love to shoot down the road and find a replica of EMB, instead I got a 2 foot high, 2 foot wide spine to skate.

How did you get on Unabomber?   Matt Holley (the guy who did Urbane Mob) showed some footage to Harry, then I got invited to Sheffield to see Harry, Grove and Liam, like a week later Harry phoned me and said “Welcome to Unabomber”

Who do you skate with now?   There’s a few people in Weston I skate with now and my mate lil’ John films too so that makes it easier to get stuff done.

Who are your favorite skaters of all time?   ?????????

What have been the things you've enjoyed most about skateboarding so far?   Meeting new friends, the trip to Brussels with ‘bomber was amazing too. Moshing in the club with Liam, Frank, Leo, and Tom, (well, trying to keep Tom on his feet).

Is there anything in skateboarding you haven't done that you'd like to accomplish?   900’s mate.

What do you enjoy besides skating?   I’m partial to a Guiness or two.

SWhat music, art and books have you been enjoying lately?   I just started getting into reading actually, just read that new Nick Hornby book (Slam), was into that for sure, now I’m reading the Anthony Kiedis autobiography, its ridiculous what he was doing at such a young age.

What are your future goals?   Keep on enjoying skating with my friends, get sorted with carpet fitting and move out of Weston, maybe go back to Swindon for a bit then move abroad somewhere.
